Fall Mantel and Entryway Bookcase

Hi! Thank you so much everyone for all your well wishes on the birth of our daughter!! Can't say enough how important and special all your wonderful comments and support have been throughout this exciting time in our lives!

Also, sorry that I've been totally MIA. Hope you'll bear with me as I navigate the murky waters of new motherhood while still trying to keep up with reading blogs and writing posts...and showering and eating and doing laundry:)

Somehow it's October. What?! How did this happen? While Paul stayed home and watched Maura this weekend, I headed out on my annual trip to the local nursery to get some pumpkins, gourds and other seasonal stuff to decorate the house for fall with. I always go with an open mind and not a plan. I just like to be inspired by whatever I find when I'm there, and then when I get home I cross my fingers and hope that it all works.

This year I really loved the small striped pumpkins. I also found one green pumpkin and grabbed a green and white gourd because I knew it would be better when I got home and started to arrange to have two things with green in them as opposed to one. On the way to the cash register with my wheelie cart/wagon full, I spied some random dried berry branches that were really pretty and would add some nice height to whatever I came up with.

And here's how the mantel turned out:

For the bookcase in our foyer, I used some of the real pumpkins I had left and combined them with some of the fall decor I've had in past years, like this bundle of wheat I made and the wooden vice from the early 1920s that I bought on my first trip to the Brimfield Antique Show.

I'm linking this up to the DIY Project Parade over at Roeshel's the DIY Show Off. Head over there to check out tons of fall related DIY projects. Also, I'm a little late for the Nester's Fall Mantel Party, but I'm linking up anyways! If you need fall mantel inspiration, this is the place to go. Thanks for having us, ladies.

Have you guys put up your fall decor yet?

  7. Oh my gosh, Sarah. I am amazed you were able to get out and then decorate for fall! I've been thinking about it for some time --- even have gourds in my garage ready to go but for some reason, this little girl is preventing me from getting ANYTHING done. If you have secrets to success, please share!

  9. So good to hear from you! Happy Fall!

As usual your mantel looks so pretty. How is it that your decorating always turns out so 'pretty, fresh and clean' and mine looks cluttered? lol Thanks so much for linking your amazing decorating talent.

Have a great rest of the week!
