Apparently...

...babies need a lot of stuff when going away on vacation!!! (In the midst of packing now.) We are leaving tomorrow for our annual trip to Prince Edward Island, Canada. We made the 12 hour drive last year when I was 8 months pregnant (stopping every hour so that I could go to the bathroom), so we figured it shouldn't be that much harder with a 10 month old...aaaahhhhhh! We're dividing the trip into 2 days, and are going to head out in the early evening, hoping Maura will fall asleep and spend most of the drive to the hotel tomorrow night asleep. Once we get to the island, I know she's going to love it - the house we rent with our friends is right on the beach! - so if we can just get through the drive, we'll be good to go. So excited that its our first real family vacation!!

I'll try to post from there next week, but am not promising anything. Anyone have any tips for traveling long distance with a baby? Have a great weekend!!

  1. When my nephew was small, my sister & her husband went up North for three months on a special assignment for his job. When we took them to the airport it was a family effort to carry all the stuff. Lucky the company paid the excess luggage fee. Hope you still enjoy your holiday in spite of all you must do to prepare.

  2. I think your plan about leaving late is perfect - that's what my brother and his wife have always done w/ their boys. We are doing a vacation just an hour or two away this year so that shouldn't be too bad. But yes, LOTS of stuff to pack - I pack a ton of stuff for our daughter just to go to my MIL's who has a pool! haha! Enjoy yourselves!

  7. Lots of food and snacks! They eat continually on a long drive! and...if you're lucky enough (we weren't) to have a tv screen in the back seat, I think that would be wonderful..
I used to sit in the back too: made it easier than always turning around and reaching! Good luck and enjoy your vacation..

  8. Hi, everyone! We made it!! Thanks for all your advice and well wishes:) The car ride was not actually as bad as we thought - Maura did so well! She is such a good baby! Sitting in the back seat with her helped, as did lots of toys, distractions and stopping and letting her get out, play, stretch her legs. Our first day of weather is so/so, but that's ok...its so great just being here! Hope you are all having a great weekend:)
