Fall Vignettes: Foyer Bookcase
I love our bookcase for fall because its something fun Maura and I did together.
We love collecting natural things while we're outside playing (last year it was pinecones) and our yard and driveway have a ton of acorns on them right now. We put our finds in this little glass bowl and it was the first seasonal thing to go here on the bookcase. (Aren't they cool?)
Then we took a trip together to a local farm stand and had fun picking out all sorts of different pumpkins and gourds. I love the non-traditional colored ones like this soft gray green pumpkin. And it looked pretty paired with some dried hydrangeas in one of my vintage #13 mason jars.
I took back out my old Hardy Boys books and used two of those cute little striped pumpkins for bookends. I like how they add back in some warm tones to really achieve a good balance of color here for fall.
Lastly, I wanted to use my chalk board again up on top of the bookcase (I like having something tall there to make use of the double story wall). And since Maura is so into acorns (Tinkerbell's best friend Terrance wears one as a hat, you know!!) I decided to do my own botanical drawing of one. I love how it turned out and so does she:)

I've got one more fall spot in our house, the mantel, and then I'm going to have to come up with something else to post about. Hmmmm.....

Love how you change out this bookcase Sarah, it never disappoints! Your chalkboard botanical is utterly charming, you should make up prints and sell them...I'd buy!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so fun that Maura can help you decorate now? Sheila has been really interested in acorns too but we haven't actually seen any in person yet (maybe at my MIL's on Friday). I got some of those sticky gel things that she puts on the door and her favorite were the acorns. Your drawing is so good - I love that you can change up the blackboard and entire look of your book case for the seasons. After your mantle post, you should do another MBM! How about it? :) And how is the book coming along with the illustrations?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cathy -- your botanical is amazing, and would make a beautiful print! :)
ReplyDeleteThe whole bookshelf is completely lovely.
LOVE the chalkboard art.
ReplyDeleteAnd love that Maura helped with the bookcase Seems she's going to grow up to be as talented as her mama.
I LOVE the pinecone wreath! Have probably 30 pinecones in our stroller basket because Cameron likes to collect them on our walks, and throw them in there. He'd be so upset if I threw them away, lol. I know he'd love this- and I have twine so I think we are going to try this!!
