Guess What?

We're having a girl!!!! Wow. We had our big ultrasound on Monday (I was 18 weeks 4 days, today I hit the 19th week, holy cow!!) and everything went really well. Healthy was what we were after, and so far it seems like she's doing great. It was so neat to see all the body parts (such a change from the blob we saw at the last ultrasound)..we saw her heart with all 4 chambers beating, the stomach and kidneys, the brain, spine (so cool!), leg and arm bones, feet. The only thing we didn't see was anything between the legs...hee, hee.

We were totally surprised, we thought it was a boy this whole time for some reason. We're so excited!! It feels so different now, way more real, especially when you can refer to "it" now as "she" or "her". Crazy!!! Now we gotta get a move on...we were cautiously optimistic up until now, but more and more it seems like we might really be parents come September! Aaaaahhhhhhhh!!! We can't wait:)

If you have kids, did you find out the sex? or wait it out for the big surprise? Why did you decide that way?

  1. Congratualtions!! How exciting! She is going to be one lucky little girl and is already so loved. I never knew what we were having until the Dr delivered my babies.Finding out before is cool because you can be totally prepared with room and clothes. When they are born it is excitng to meet her for the first time and see her little sweet face. Oh it is all so exciting. Enjoy each and every minute. Kathysue

  2. Hi Sarah! What amazing news! Dan and I actually just found out we're expecting our first baby too! Due December 17th, 2010. I'm still very early....just 5 weeks....but we're praying and we're hopeful! We'd love to find out the gender of this little snowball. I think it'll make preperations so much simplier and I'd like to be able to refer to the baby as he or she and not just a hypothetical he or she. Good luck to you. When you do plan on starting the nursery? Any tips for dealing with the nervousness of an early pregnancy?(besides staying off the internet - ha ha :)
    Take care,
    Allison

  3. Again, congrats! The way I see it, it's still a "surprise" whether you find out at 19 weeks or 40 weeks, you know? Finding out sooner just gives a little more time to plan, and get all that cute gender appropriate clothes and blankets. =)

  4. Congratulations! We also found out - at 16 weeks. I was a little worried they might be wrong so at our 20 week appointment when they checked her all out, I said we wanted to double check. There was no doubt after that appointment! How fun! Now you can browse all things little girl!

  5. Congrats a little girl! Did you start designing her nursery in your head the minute you left? We found out at 20 weeks, like you it felt more "real" to be able to call him "he" and start really narrowing down names. Plus I wanted to really plan his nursery, which isn't insanely gender specific, but it is definately a boys room.

  7. Congrats!!! GO out and buy pink now!
We did find out w/ my first child (daughter) but not w/ my second. It was so fun not knowing! Family hated that, but we didn't find out and kept names a secret too. It was fun to announce after birth...Here is our son, XXXXXXX. :)

  8. YAY YAY YAY, She'll be beautiful I'm sure of it :) I'll hopefully find out in a week but the suspense is killing me, mostly because we've also been convinced it's a boy, but we'll see. Now it's time to get to work on those names :) ENJOY

  9. Congratulations! Very exciting!
I only have one and didn't want to know beforehand what the baby would be. That said... I decorated the nursery with rosy-reddish-pink and bunnies and couldn't for the life of me come up with boys names that I liked because I was so certain I was carrying a girl. All my pregnancy dreams were of girls. If I had had a boy, I would have been shocked beyong belief. Thank goodness I was right! I've always liked the idea of delaying the surprise til the very end. But it's a completely personal decision and a surprise all the same no matter when you find out. Have fun decorating!

  11. Yay! Thanks, everyone!!!

OMG, Tracy!! That is crazy, what if it was a boy..lol! Good intuition, girl!!

I totally agree, Leslie! I think I'm going to be surprised enough when she pops out and I fullyrealize that I have to take care of her for the rest of my/her life!!

No, not too much pink!!!!!! That is one thing that is worrying me, I'm not really a pink person:)

Dominique - good luck next week! This ultrasound is so amazing, you will feel so different afterwards:)

  15. Congratulations! You are going to have soooo much fun adding the color pink to your world!

I have two kids and we didn't find the sex out with either one. We both wanted to be surprised so it was easy not to find out. I was especially surprised the second time because I thought we were having another boy but we had a girl! The pregnancies were sooo similar and she looked sooo masculine in her 4-D ultrasounds!

  16. eeeek! So exciting!!! Congratulations. I don't have any children (but I pray I will someday), and I think it would be so neat to wait to find out the sex 'til birth, but I don't think I could stand it!!
