Back from Brimfield 2012

Hi! Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day!!

Well, I'm back from Brimfield! The weather was pretty decent, the fair food was good (how can you go wrong with fried dough and fresh-squeezed lemonade?!), but the traffic was way worse than anything I've seen in past years.  It's an hour and 45 minutes away and it took me 3.5 hours to get there and get parked. And then on the way home it took me a full hour to just make my out of the parking lot and down the length of the fair street. It wouldn't ever deter me from going again, but I guess next time I'll have to get up even earlier:(

I didn't come home with a ton, but I did score a large-scale find which I'm super psyched about, and a couple of other little things. I'll be back to share those in another post, here's just some pics I took while browsing.

{is this an antique show or Potions class at Hogwarts?!}
{I remember wishing I had bought one of these old wooden crate/boxes last year, but I still didn't get one this year...wasn't sure where I'd put it so I tried to stop myself}
{how cool would it be to own an old railroad ticket counter?!}

{would love to have gone home with one of these industrial side tables but didn't have the money or car space...reminded me of Restoration Hardware}

{these weren't actual antique grain sacks or anything, just stenciled designs right onto the fabric, but I still really liked them, especially that soft grey 1902 one}
{had my eye out for a large hanging chart or map of some kind...a lot of the ones I saw were not in English though...don't worry, I didn't give up!}
{I already have one of these glass fishing balls, otherwise I probably would have went for it here}
{If I was working on a boy's adventure nursery, big kid room or any nautical space in general, I would have sprung for this old prop, but hopefully for a slightly cheaper price}
{Looved these huge arched mirrors, but didn't have $995 to spend}
{almost got one of these round egg baskets, but didn't}

{I could see this quilt inspiring Sarah Richardson's next cottage bedroom}

Pps. Dina, how'd you do? Get anything good?! Did anybody else make it out?

  2. Fun stuff Sarah! I can't wait to see what you picked up. I love the rug, the quilt, and the propeller. I got my Mom one of those baskets at Homegoods for Christmas, so check there maybe if you were interested in one. I'll be giving MBM a shout out this week - I would have done it sooner but you know how things get. Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day.

  3. I live to see what others get at these kind of sales. Our sales of this sort are "yucky" here in so. calif. Overpriced and rarely fun....thanks for sharing....

  8. Sarah,
    Thank you so much for linking to my Brimfield Part I post. I never tire of seeing what other people brought home and was obsessed with the metal letters (both this year and last year). I just saw your links to all of your previous Brimfield posts and am excited to sit and read them ALL. It's that Brimfield thrill, that never goes away for me....and clearly for you too! - judging by your patience with the traffic! I will give your post a shout out on Twitter!

    Thanks again for the link!

  9. I've been such a bad blogger! This move has me totally out of sorts. But I'm slowly getting back into the grove. Brimfield was amazing and OMG SO OVERWHELMING! So much stuff! So much traffic! I have to say I was a little bummed at the prices. I guess I was expecting more deals/flea market prices but it was definitely more antiques dealer prices I felt. I picked up this cool carved wood whale that I thought was a neat accessory...maybe 20" long. I would have sworn it was like $35 when the dealer came up behind me and asked me to please handle it with care because it was $3,600!!!! I put that down very fast :)

    I still managed not to leave empty handed of course. I got 2 antique architectural corbels, some vintagey wood beads and some smaller gilded angel wings since my enormous ones back in NC are sure to never fit in any house we buy here :) I was on the lookout for a vintage pull down school map too and saw a bunch but they were all of either just the US or just South America or just something and I really wanted the whole world. Oh well, there's always eBay!
