The Nursery: Before

Hi! Happy Mother's Day!!!!! A big congrats and thank you to all the moms out there. It's really special to kind of be included in this holiday this year...I feel very blessed this day to be pregnant (I just started feeling flutters/kicks/movement in the last few days!)...and I can't help thinking about this time next year when we are going to have an 8 month old - crazy!!!

So I thought I'd kick off the nursery posts with a look at the room before (not to mislead you, we've done nothing in here yet). Here's a couple of bad pics from the day we moved in. I won't show you what the room looks like now but it is where we permanently have our ironing board set up, where I keep my shoes and some of my clothes (our master bedroom closet sucks), where we throw holiday gifts after we buy them and before we wrap them...you know, all that stuff.

Here's what the room looks like if you were to turn around and face the door after you walked in. The cool thing about this room is the really high (and angled) ceilings. This used to be part of the master bedroom before the previous owners put the addition on (which is the new current master bedroom). I definitely want to do some kind of paint treatment in here to the ceiling to take advantage of and emphasize the height.

{doorway out to the hallway on the right and her closet on the left}

When you walk into the room you are in this sort of very short almost hallway, with the closet on your right. Above the entrance is this weird empty space/cubby-like thing...not sure why its there or what (if anything) I should do with it. Any ideas?

Basically the room is a pretty decent blank slate (except for the ironing board, shoes, clothes, random boxes, etc.). The walls are a soft cream and will get painted. The carpet is in ok shape, maybe we'll cover some of it with a fun area rug. The plastic roller shades have got to go. (I got an idea, Sarah...why not roll up the shades when you're trying to take decent pictures of the room!? No wonder they're dark...idiot!!! It was like 3 years ago...oh well.)

In the above photo, the wall to the right is on your right when you walk in. It's a nice big blank wall with nothing on it. The wall on the left in the pic is the wall opposite the door and weird cubby thing. It has the only 2 windows in the room on it. In the below photo, you can see the second window and then the wall that is to your left when you walk in (stupid baseboard radiator thingies!!).

So there you have it. The nursery before. Not very exciting. But the possibilities are exciting...and the thought of who will be sleeping here is very, very exciting. Can't wait to get started!!!!

  2. I love nursery makeovers and can't wait to see what you come up with. Two of my favorite blogs (Young House Love and All Bower Power 2.0) just finished their nurseries and both turned out adorable. Might be worth checking out :)

    This one is really cute too: http://ashleyannphotography.com/blog/2009/06/30/entering-the-girl-world-the-nursery/

    Good Luck and I'm sure it will turn out lovely!

  3. I can't wait to see what you do with this space, Sarah! As for the nook above the door, I suppose I'd use it to store out-of-season items (clothing, bedding, etc.) in large baskets.

    Hope you enjoyed your first Mother's Day. :)
