blossom + sage
And no, not the 90s show with Mayim Bialik and Joey Lawrence!! I'm talking the lovely shade of soft bubblegum pink from one of my favorite stores and paper vendors, Paper Source:) I use the PS Collection from Paper Source a lot for my invitations because they have a wide range of awesome colors (with matching envelopes) and its just good quality stuff. If you have a Paper Source store near you, you should definitely go and browse sometime...I could spend all day, and my whole paycheck, in there!
This is a project I worked on last summer for Mikki and Scott. They got married in August at a gorgeous country club on Cape Cod. When Mikki and I met to talk about their big day and the vision she had for her paper goods, she gave me a few key goals...she wanted pink and green, something floral, modern, and formal yet still casual.
Fortunately, Mikki and Scott wanted to start with Save the Date cards. I love getting a chance to help with STDs, because you really have an opportunity to hit the guests early with your look and feel. And you have more of a chance to carry your **gasp** theme (do not panic at the mention of this word...remember the dictionary definition of a theme is "a unifying or dominant idea, motif, etc."!!!) throughout different aspects of the event.
Here's a look at what we ended up with. A square format immediately says modern. Even though square items cost more to send, sometimes the impact of this simple change of size and shape is worth the extra money. We included 2 cards in the ensemble - the first was more decorative and included the key details (date and location) of the wedding. The second listed suggested accommodations and the couple's wedding website.
Mikki liked the idea of presenting the cards together as one complete package instead of just slipping both into the envelope. So we stacked them together with a blank piece of Blossom cardstock (the same size) on top and wrapped all 3 with a belly band (paper sash). This also gave us another chance to include the "floral" aspect that Mikki wanted...we repeated the pink and green floral pattern and were able to sneak in their names inside this cute little circle. This is what the guest saw when they opened the envelope:)
Mikki and Scott needed four inserts (Rsvp, Reception, Accommodations, and Directions). Though usually three is adequate to convey all the info you need to guests, four cards still fit neatly tucked into the pocket of this sage (ok, maybe its more like meadow or clover or leaf...but sage worked better with the blog title) canvas folder. We even made room for more damask on each of the inserts!
Think of all the different combos of and statements you can make with pink and green! Together they can be pale and romantic, preppy and plaid, or subtle and sophisticated. This color combo is great for weddings, bridal showers, baby girl showers, garden parties.

By the time we got to work on the invitations themselves, Mikki had decided that she wanted to use damask as her overlying graphic pattern for the wedding. Yay! I love that damask has made such a comeback. This wasn't really a problem - by keeping the same paper colors, fonts and ink colors as the STDS, we were able to sustain a unified, though slightly less matchy-matchy, feel.
Mikki and Scott also wanted their invitations to be pocketfolds. These are such a great trend in wedding stationery nowadays. They allow you to present all the components you are including in one neat package, keeping things very easy and organized for the guest. Plus, just like the belly band on the Save the Date, they allow an extra spot for embellishments (the outside or cover of the folder)! A matching blossom satin ribbon holds the whole thing closed.
